Reasons Granite Kitchen Counters May Not be Right for You

While there is no doubt that granite countertops are a great option, they aren’t right for everyone. The following are some of the reasons why people choose to go with another solution when remodeling their kitchen.

  • Cost – Each granite countertop has to be cut out of huge natural rock formations, brought down to the right size, shipped to your home, and much more. All this takes a lot of work, and will contribute to the overall cost of your countertops. While beautiful, this option is one of the most expensive.
  • Long Lasting – Long lasting countertops are great, unless you’re the type of person who likes to make changes to their kitchen every few years. If you want to replace your counters every few years, it doesn’t make sense to have them made of granite.
  • Must be Properly Sealed – Granite countertops naturally have tiny pours in them that need to be professionally sealed up or they can be susceptible to stains as well as bacteria.
  • Damage – While granite is very hard and resistant to damage, if something does happen it can be very expensive to fix. A crack or chip will likely require the countertop to be replaced if you want it fixed.

As with many aspects of a remodeling project, it will be necessary to take the time to really think through your different options. If you have any questions about granite countertops, or anything else, please give us a call to speak with one of our design professionals.
